About us

About us

Since its establishment in 1954, it has captured the hearts of locals. Now, under the new leadership of John Betts, former CEO of McDonald’s Canada, Shippy’s restaurant is dedicated to carrying forward its esteemed legacy. It remains a welcoming, warm, and inviting neighborhood spot with friendly service and fresh, locally sourced comfort food. While our commitment to exceptional food and service is fundamental, we believe in a broader philosophy that extends beyond the walls of 36 Windmill and towards our greater Southampton community. Among other current and in-progress initiatives, a portion of all sales is donated to local Southampton and New York charities, including Heart of the Hamptons Tunnels for Towers.

A Letter From The owner
My name is John Betts, and I have the privilege of being the owner of this beloved institution, which holds a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike.

After a remarkable journey in corporate life, including 50 years at McDonalds and 12 successful years as the president and CEO of McDonald's Canada...

Throughout my extensive experience, I have had the privilege of leading teams across various markets, including Michigan, Florida and South Carolina. I have managed thousands of restaurants, including unique venues such as Walmart's, airports, and tollways. These experiences have allowed me to engage with guests, employees, and world-class supply partners, fostering a deep appreciation for the importance of quality, service, and cleanliness.

At the core of our brand, I firmly believe that it is the people who make the difference. From our valued guests to our dedicated employees, your satisfaction and well-being are our top priorities. Our commitment to collaboration, innovation, and unparalleled people practices has been instrumental in driving the success of McDonald's Canada, one of the most financially prosperous markets in the world. It is this same passion and dedication that I bring to Shippy's, as we aim to create an unforgettable dining experience for you.

As a hands-on leader, I have always preferred to be in the midst of the action, connecting with guests and staff, rather than confined to an office. I am proud to be known as the "blue-collar CEO," emphasizing the importance of human connections and fostering a culture where every individual feels motivated and empowered.

I am fully dedicated to this project, investing not only my resources but also my heart and soul into the renovation and rejuvenation of Shippy's.

Alongside our team, the support and togetherness of my beloved family, including my wife Bridget, my son John Jr. and my daughter Anastasia, add a special touch to this endeavor. Together, as a family, alongside our unparallel team, we are committed to building upon the beloved legacy of this establishment and creating a dining experience that exceeds your expectations.

Thank you for choosing Shippy's, and we look forward to serving you with our warm hospitality, delicious food, and a memorable atmosphere. Your satisfaction is our utmost priority, and we are excited to embark on this journey with you.

Warm regards,
John Betts
